Wheaton/Herman-Norcross recorded a hard fought 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-18) win over Brandon-Evansville on Thursday night.

Ellissa Rinke led the Warriors attack with 10 kills and Brylie Schultz added 7 kills and 3 block assists.  Emily Berger had 13 assists and Lesley Rinke contributed 7 assists and 7 digs.  Dig leaders were Avah Sykora with 13 and Kyah Thomas with 9.  Serving leaders were Lesley Rinke (14/15, 1 ace), Berger (10/11), Thomas (9/11), Ellissa Rinke (16/18, 2 aces) and Sykora (13/18, 2 aces).

“It was a steamy night in the gym and we needed may breaks to mop up the floor,” noted Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Head Coach Ann Dreke.  “We won all three games, but they were all tight.”

The Chargers struggled on the serving line, putting just 85.3% (58-68) of their serves in play.  Sydney Schaefer (11-12, 1 ace), Kaytlyn Pattrin (11/12, 1 ace) and EmmaLee Brethorst (11/13, 5 aces) were the serving leaders for B-E.  Kill leaders were Kylee Dingwall with 8, Taylor Yeats with 6 and Brethorst withi 5.  Schaefer distributed 13 set assists and dig leaders were Schaefer and Yeats with 6 apiece.

“Tonight was a lesson in communication, or the lack there of,” stated Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Kelly Olson.  “Wheaton played well and we hung around just long enough to make the sets close, but we failed to take that last step.  We seemed to have an up and down night the entire match.  We played very well during stretches just to let things slip away.  I thought Kaytlyn Pattrin gave a good chance from the serving line, Olivia Otto played very well tonight, and Taylor Suchy had a strong night and sacrificed her body tonight.  Those three came off the bench and did exactly what they were asked.  Taylor Yeats also had a nice match for us.  We liked how hard all the kids played, which is what we need moving into next week.  We are going to clean a few things up very quickly and get ready for Tuesday and our first conference match versus Battle Lake.”
