The Alexandria Boys Soccer team hosted the Pelican Rapids Vikings this Thursday evening for a memory-making match. To start off, the temperature was a cool 61 degrees with consistent rain all evening and wind gusting up to 22 mph. If this wasn't enough to enjoy a soccer game, add on a growing rivalry between the Cardinals and Vikings. Going back to last season when the Vikings knocked the Cardinals out of the Section 8A quarterfinal match.

Knowing this would be a battle, the Cardinals were ready to fight for a win. The Vikings came in with a clear plan to jam up the midfield and put continuous coverage on Jack Carlson and Thomas Klecker. This would have been a great plan but both teams pushed each other to keep the speed of play on a high level and the weather conditions didn't help either team control the game.

The Cardinals were able to convert an indirect free kick in the 4th minute of play when Jack Carlson, unassisted, drove the ball to the bottom right corner. This was the lone goal in the first half, leaving the Cardinals up 1-0. The second goal came from Jack Carlson in the 54th minute of play while converting a penalty kick. This ended the goals having the Cardinals walk off the pitch with a win.

The Cardinal Boys Soccer team is currently 3-0 on the season and look to host St Cloud Apollo this Tuesday evening with a 7pm kick off.
