The Alexandria girls’ soccer team moved to 2-0 with a 7-0 win in their home opener on Tuesday over Fergus Falls.  The Cardinals struck for five goals in the first half from five different players and added a pair of second half goals.

First half goals went to Allie Haabala, Sophia Korynta, Ella Westlund, Ella Sorenson, and Elle Heydt.  Westlund assisted on Sorenson’s goal, her first as a varsity player.  Heydt’s goal was the last of the half and came on a free kick from 35 yards out.

In the second half, Haabala and Korynta each notched their second goals of the night.  Greta Oldenkamp had 3 assists for the Cardinals and Alexa Eggebraaten also assisted on a goal.

Goalkeeper Sophia Vinje locked down her second consecutive shutout with strong play from the entire defensive unit, led by center defenders Ellen Panther and Kylee James.

Fergus Falls goalie Kelsi Beck stopped 14 shots on goal.

“We made some errors early in the game against a really good team and found ourselves down five goals at the half,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “Our aim in the second half was to play a half that we could take pride in and we stuck with Alexandria throughout the second half playing in their end more than we did in the first half.”
