West Central Area posted a 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-19) sweep of the Rothsay Tigers in Barrett on Tuesday night, improving their record on the young season to 2-0.

“Aggressive serving and hitting in game one got us off to a quick start,” commented WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “We really controlled the tempo in games one and two.  We got on some serving runs and Elizabeth Rustan (12/12 serving, 2 aces, 8 digs, 16 kills) and Mya Foslien (17/17 serving, 6 aces, 8 kills, 1 block) really came out strong, both swinging from the outside.  Kaitlyn Hansen (8 digs) played great defense in left back, along with Madelyn Westrom (13 digs), who is so quick.  She covered the floor very well tonight!  We know we still need to get better at defense.  It helps as we have a relatively tall lineup so those touches by our blockers help us slow down the play to get into our offense.  Great team effort tonight.”

Other stat leaders were Halle Foslien (10/11 serving, 2 aces, 3 blocks), Whitney Westrom (11/11 serving, 2 aces, 1 block) and Macy Grosz (25 set assists, 8 digs, 1 block).

“West Central did a great job of taking care of the ball tonight, so hats off to them,” said Rothsay Head Coach John Reber. “While we played well in certain stretches, and served well overall, I thought defensively we were a bit slow at reading tonight and let too many easy balls hit the floor on our side. We'll need to clean that up if we want to play at our best this season.”

Rothsay was led by Kenadi Carlsrud (9 kills, 13 digs, 2 blocks, 7/7 serving, 2 aces), Summer Wigdahl (5 kills, 7 digs), and Chase Balken (8 assists, 1 block).

The Lady Knights will play at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Thursday night, while Rothsay heads to Parkers Prairie for a Little Eight Conference match on Tuesday, September 7.
