Wheaton/Herman-Norcross won their volleyball opener at Battle Lake on Tuesday night in a hard-fought five set match.  The Warriors won 25-20, 22-25, 14-25, 25-23, 15-11.

“The girls had a slow start, but rebounded quickly to take sets two and three,” stated Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Roisum.  “The Warriors came out strong in the fourth set while we dug ourselves a hole.  We fought back, but just fell short of taking the set.  The fifth set was tight until point 11 when Wheaton went on a four point serving run to take the match.  It was an exciting first match and we are looking forward to the season.”

Seniors Grace VanErp and Ady Tysdal led the Battlers with 15 kills each.  VanErp also added 16 assists, 8 aces and 7 blocks.  Tysdal contributed 11 digs and was the Battlers top passer, going 31-for-32.  Quinn Amundson had a strong night going 19-of-21 serving with 4 aces and 3 kills.  Morgan Malone also had 3 kills and was a perfect 12-for-12 on the serving line.  Sophie Akerman dished out 18 assists and had a 20-for-23 serving night.

The Warriors were led by Lesley Rinke (17/17 serving, 10 assists, 14 digs), Emily Berger (16/16 serving, 4 aces, 14 assists, 3 digs), Elissa Rinke (16/17 serving, 2 aces, 11 kills, 9 digs), Brylie Schultz (9 kills, 9/13 serving, 2 aces, 13 digs) and Kyah Thomas (20/21 serving, 2 aces, 3 kills, 12 digs).

The Battlers head to Bertha-Hewitt for a match on Thursday night and the Warriors travel to face Brandon-Evansville.
