The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Storm Cross County got their season off and running at the Morris Area Meet on Monday afternoon.  A warm, sunny afternoon on a hilly course offered a good challenge for Storm racers and they responded well to the task.

The day was highlighted by senior Aiden Ruddy and junior Luke Baumgardner placing 6th and 11th respectively in the boys’ varsity 5k race.  Kierra Wiertzema, 8th grade, and senior Madison Rabbithead placed 15th and 20th in the girls’ 5k varsity division.  Overall the girls’ team placed 3rd and the boys’ team 7th.

“Aiden and Luke ran very well together, they were patient on the course and took advantage of other kids fading late in the race to move up to the front pack in the last mile,” said Head Coach Larry Lasch. “Kierra ran a very focused and steady race while Madison did very well to start the season.  The entire team ran within themselves and is showing much promise for the season.”
