Border West had three girls participate in the varsity race at the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Invite on Monday at the Pom de Terre golf course. The Buccaneers also had a full boys’ team running the race, placing ninth out of eleven teams.
The boys’ race was won by Lac qui Parle Valley with 62 points. Sauk Centre was a close second with 65. Then came New London-Spicer 102. Melrose 142, Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 142, Benson/KMS 150, Breckenridge/Wahpeton 187, Osakis 187, the Buccaneers 189, Minnewaska Area 208 and Long Prairie/Grey Eagle 287.
Joe Arens (18:57.00) led Border West runners with a fourteenth place finish and Derek Lupkes (20:27.00) finished 40th. Eli Larson (20:50.00) was 48th, Zachary Rikimoto (21:02.00) 48th, Brady Pederson (23:42.00) 72nd and Brayden Hormann (24:45.00) 81st.
For the girls, Julia Schmidt (23:24.00) led the way with a tenth place finish. Karter Martinek (27:21.00) was 40th and Braylen Schmidt (29:37.0) came in 50th for the Buccaneers. Minnewaska was the girls’ team champion with 22 points. They were followed by New London-Spicer with 84, Breckenridge/Wahpeton with 98, Melrose with 100, Benson/KMS with 106, Long Prairie/Grey Eagle with 125 and Sauk Centre with 155.
