The Fergus Falls boys’ cross country team kicked off their 2021 season at the Minnesota River Run in Staples on Monday. The host Staples-Motley Cardinals won the team event with 38 points and the Otters took second with 53 points. Park Rapids Area was third with 57 points.
“This is a very solid finish against some very strong teams,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Derek Meyer. “Both Staples-Motley and Park Rapids are ranked in the top 10 in the Class A pre-season rankings. We got a good measure of where we are at as a team and will look to gain on our fitness and team racing.”
Conrad Lobb ended up third in the individual competition with a time of 17:55.4 and Jaden Miller was eighth with a time of 18:43.1. They were followed by Luke Schroedeer (19:17.1) in eleventh place, Logan Bredenberg (19:31.7) in thirteenth place and Matthew Tuel (19:44.6) in eighteenth place. Jack Welde (19:53.6) was 22nd and Michael Schmidt (21:03.3) was 28th.
“The boys’ had an outstanding meet with some very strong team and individual performances at all ages,” noted Meyer. “The middle school boys started off the meet with a 2500 meter race and set the tone for the rest of the team.”
Middle School results saw Kadyn Zender (10:03.) finish second, Nolan Festul (10:32.8) seventh, Ethann Strande (11:00.4) tenth, Brody Nelson (12:00.8) eleventh, Trygivie Ronnevik (12:47.0) sixteenth and Riley Anderson (13:11.0) seventeenth.
