The Parkers Prairie volleyball team battled through an early season team quarantine and finished the 2020 season with a record of 8-4, recording a 4-2 Little Eight Conference Record.  The Panthers graduated five seniors from that team and will have some big holes to fill.

“After losing a few games early in the season and having to sit two weeks for a team quarantine, the girls came back out fired up to make up for lost court time,” said Head Coach Amy Revering, now in her twelfth season.  “It showed the adversity of the team and their love for the game.  Seeing them work together at something they truly enjoyed was bigger and better than any huge offensive kill or defensive save.  Last year was a season of highs and lows, often determined by COVID, so our girls made the best of every time they stepped on the court.”

Last year’s libero, Darian Booker is now playing at M State in Fergus Falls.  “She was fearless and dug up a lot of balls in the back,” recalled Coach Revering.  “We will be missing two big middle blocks with Keida Wagner and Faith Alberts graduating.  We will also miss Alberts’ big attacks.  We are also starting over in our setting position as we lost our 5-1 setter Megan Blake and our utility player, Joan Haggenmiller who was another setter and solid passer.”

Revering is looking to returning junior letter winners, Jada Lego (Outside Hitter), Cora Johnson (Outside Hitter) and Ashley Olson (Libero), as well as the lone senior letter winner, Grace Schroeder (Utility), to step up and lead the team.

“We have a lot of young talent and a lot of girls that are juniors and seniors, but have seen minimal varsity court time, so it will take a bit to get the nerves out and get settled into positions,” stated Revering.  “One seniors, Delaney Kapphahn, has secured one of the open middle positions.  She is a consistent offensive threat and keeps the atmosphere light on the court.  This is a hard-working, positive group that is very versatile.  We have quite a few girls that can play multiple positions.  We have several players looking to fit into the rotation and make a presence on the team.”

Those players include seniors Lydia Guenther and Cosette Stevens-Schroeder in the front row, and senior Ashley Dreger on defense.  The two setters coming in are new to the varsity, eighth-grader Alyssa Revering and senior Ally Kies.  “Reps with the hitters are a big focus for the setters in the early part of the season,” said Coach Revering.  “We have a deep bench and still have a handful of players that can step in when and where needed.”

Revering says Underwood will be the favorite in the Little Eight Conference and Henning is the team to beat in Section 6A.

Assistant coaches are Alicia Kruse and Karin Wagner.
