Excitement and Expectations are high as the Perham/New York Mills girls’ swimming and diving team opens their 2021 season.  Head Coach Jensen Grimley is beginning year number five in that position and will be assisted by Trent Swanson, with Amanda Fischer serving as Diving Coach.

“We hit the ground running, as all of our newcomers have club swimming experience,” said Coach Grimley.  “We’re hoping to have some girls break into the top 8 and top 16 at the section meet, and to have a couple of state qualifiers.”

In 2020, Diver Brittney Lorentz (SO) took fourth in the sections to qualify for state and there were two middle school records broken, the 200 medley relay record fell to the team of Molly Meyer (8th), Katelyn Kratzke (FR), Taylor Ziemke (8th) and Elle McDonald (FR), and Ziemke also established a new record in the 50 freestyle.  All of them return for 2021, along with seniors Irene Mursu, Jasmyn Olson and diver Madison Ruther, juniors Lucie Meyer, Josi Mindermann, Kaydi Mursu and Lucy Schultz and sophomore Avery McAllister.

Newcomers to the varsity squad include freshman Rachel Hexum and seventh-graders Megan Galbrecht, Anika Mursu and Jaelyn Rodewald.

Grimley points to Detroit Lakes and Park Rapids Area as conference favorites and says Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls and Park Rapids Area are the top teams in Section 8A.
