The graduation of eight seniors from their 2020 team has left Head Coach Jamie Lill of the Fergus Falls girls’ tennis team with some questions concerning the varsity lineup in 2021.  The Otters are looking to replace Ava Weber, Hannah Prody, Paige Pearson, Logan Strom, Bianca Castro, Madison Longtin, Karley Kugler and Lily Chamoun.  Lill and assistant coaches Roy Anderson, Jesse Schneeberger and Norm Newell are working overtime to get their kids ready for a competitive Central Lakes Conference season.

“With the graduation of 8 seniors this past year, we have a lot of room for youngsters to come and fill in our lineup,” acknowledged Coach Lill.  “As the season progresses through the first couple of weeks, we’ll look to see who is ready for the challenge.  We had some great upper-level JV players last year, as well as some new faces, so it will be exciting to see how it shakes out.”

Senior captain Ellie Colbeck returns, along with seniors Mia Marsh, Mackenzie Krava, Lexy Samuelson and Leila Nasri, junior Isabella Abrahams, sophomores Amber Anderson and Madison Anderson, and 8th-grader Ashtyn Lill.

“We are looking forward to another fun season,” added Coach Lill.  “We are not returning any doubles teams from last year, so it will be interesting to see how our lineup shakes out.  We have some experience from a couple of veterans and some young players that we’re hoping to build on.  We know we have a huge role to fill heading into the season as our first singles player, Ellie Colbeck, will be out with an injury.  This is a huge hit to our team and our lineup.  When you lose the person at the top, everybody has to step up and shift up in the lineup.  Everybody’s job just got more challenging.  It will be fun to see who fills this role and how the girls step up to this challenge.”

Lill says Bemidji is the top team in Section 8AA and St. Cloud Tech is the team to beat in the CLC.
