The Rothsay football team will be under the direction of former assistant coach Joel Meyer who is in his first year as head coach.  Meyer spent 8 years as an assistant in the Rothsay program.  He will be assisted by Kyle Blanchard, Isaiah Lemke and Chris Heier as the Tigers look to improve on their 2-4 record of a year ago.

Colby Larson and Karsyn Zilmer were key losses to graduations with Larson now competing in track and field at Minnesota State University-Moorhead.

“Our strengths will be our seniors and experience from our underclassmen,” noted Coach Meyer.  “Our weakness will be our lack of size.  We are going to have to rely on quickness and fundamentally sound football.”

Returning starters include seniors Tanner Heier (LB), Chris Carrillo (T/DE), Sam Danielson (RB/S) and Jett Kulack (TE/DE).  Meyer will also look for junior center Wylie Brendon, junior quarterback Karter Jensen and middle linebacker Mason Kadel to make an impact on the varsity field.

“These guys are going to be the anchors of our football team,” added Meyer.  “Plus we have a young group of sophomores that are going to have to play a big role for us this year.”

Meyer says Verndale is the favorite in Section 6 of 9-man.
