As he begins his 17th year as Head Coach of the Barnesville Trojans, Bryan Strand has reason to be optimistic about his football team’s chances in Section 8AA and the always tough Midwest District - White Division.  Strand has a lot of familiar, experienced faces on his coaching staff, including Phil Trowbridge, Nathan Strand, Nick Paur, Ace Gregg, Dain Biewer and Kirk Peterson.

Even though the Trojans lost quarterback Adam Tonsfeldt (Concordia College, Moorhead), Joey Mark, Brady Kroll, Eric Ackerson, Aaron Schiefert, Carter DuBord, Mason Moen, Jack Olson, Marcus Paul, Nolan Rick, Wyatt Roller and Cole Swenson to graduation, they boast a solid group of returning starters and letter winners heading into the 2021 season.

“This is the biggest and strongest offensive line I have had in my tenure at Barnesville,” said Coach Strand.  “We will average over 235 pounds end to end and are very strong.  We have to replace a fantastic quarterback in Adam Tonsfeldt and some good lineman from last year, but the boys have been working extremely hard and are ready for the test.  We have a challenging schedule but feel if we can stay healthy we should be fighting for the district, section and possibly state this season.  Those are our goals and we are going to work hard to accomplish them.”

Returners include seniors Cameron Heng (RB/DB), Kaden Zenzen (E/DE), Travis Affield (T/DT), Noah Krause (QB/LB), Peyton Pauna (RB/DB), Ryan Martinson (E/LB) and Brady Dollison (T/DT), along with juniors Jonny Robideau (G/LB), Tim Wells (G/DT), Braeden Bredman (RB/DB), Brodee Gray (RB/DB), Spencer Schumacher (OL/DL) and Jordon Kroll (OL/DL).  Heng, Zenzen, Affield and Robideau will serve as team captains.

Strand will be looking to juniors Tate Inniger (E/DT), Andrew Pederson (RB/LB), Connor Loeks (FB/LB), John Roller (FB/LB), Wyatt Suter (E/DE), Logan Yeske (E/DE), Aaron Baker (RB/DB), Owen Riddle (QB/S), Carson Hagen (RB/DB), Austin Bolgrean (OL/DL), Brennan Steele (OL/DL) and Isaac Maneval (E/DE/K), along with sophomores Dawson Gregg (RB/DB), Ayden Hauck (RB/DB), Justin Krueger (OL/DL), Ethan Larson (FB/LB), Landon Luhman (OL/DL) and Jay Tschumperlin (E/DE) to contribute at the varsity level.

Strand says Hawley and Pelican Rapids will be the main challengers in District and Section competition.
