The Fergus Falls 13U Babe Ruth baseball team saw their season come to an end on Saturday morning, losing to Paynesville 7-2 in the quarter final round of the state tournament.  Hits were nearly even as the Otters managed 6 hits compared to 7 for Paynesville, but timely Bulldog hitting and 3 untimely Otter errors allowed Paynesville to score 1 run in the 1st,  2 runs in the 4th and 4 more runs in the 5th, putting the game out of reach.

Micah Johnson pitched 3 ⅓ solid innings, allowing only 1H, 2R, 1ER, 1BB and 3K.  Isaiah Holmes and Jacob Fronning combined for ⅔ of an inning, each allowing 2R, 1ER, 2BB,  before Hunter Powers came in for the final 3 innings allowing 3H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 2K.

Hunter Powers (2-2, 2-2B, BB) and Rowan Cheshire (2-3, RBI) led the offense with 2 hits apiece, while Micah Johnson (1-3), and Parker Thielke (1-3, RBI) each added one hit.

Cam Weiderich and Hunter Powers were named players of the game by the State Babe Ruth Tournament Director at the conclusion of the game.  Cam for his versatility in the field, playing shortstop, center field, and third base, making great plays  at all 3 positions without any errors. Hunter Powers was recognized for his solid day at the plate and his effort on the mound, pitching for the final 3 innings, giving the Otters a chance to come back.

The Fergus Falls 13U team ended the season with a 23-3 record and made a solid run in the last 2 weeks of the season.

“I couldn’t be more proud of these kids," said Fergus Falls Head Coach Shane Thielke.  "It didn’t end the way we wanted it to as we would have loved to push further into this tournament and have a shot at winning it all, but that is baseball.  Paynesville was the better team today and you have to give them credit as they did what they needed to do to get past us.  We wish our friends at OTC the best of luck as they continue to play and are in the state championship on Sunday, proudly representing District 6.”

A special thank you to the players, parents, and families of these great kids for a special season.  The future of Otter Baseball is definitely bright!
