Brayden Ehnert led off the bottom of the fifteenth inning with a double and two outs later he scored the winning run on a walk-off RBI single by Jace Randolph, lifting the New York Mills Eagles to a thrilling 9-8 win over Randolph in the Class A State Semifinals at Faber Field in St. Cloud.

The Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Brenn Salo walked, moved to second on a balk and scored on a triple by Jonah Johnson.

Randolph tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth.  One of five New York Mills errors allowed Collin Otto to reach base with one out.  Otto then stole second and scored on a two-out single by J. Weckop to tie the game 1-1.

The Rockets threatened in the top of the seventh, but left the bases loaded.  The Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but failed to produce a run.  The score remained 1-1 through 11 innings, however, Randolph took a 4-1 lead by pushing across three runs in the top of the twelfth.  Otto drew a one-out walk, but was picked off for the second out of the inning.  A walk by Brandon Gerster, followed by a single by J. Weckop and a 3-run homer by Nathan Weckop put the Rockets on top, 4-1.  New York Mills answered with a two-out rally in the bottom of the twelfth.  Dre Roberts got it started with a base hit and Ehnert then reached on an error, moving Roberts to second base.  Cody Barthel singled to fill the bases once again.  This time the Eagles delivered as Cade Rudolph singled to drive in Roberts, Jace Randolph reached on an infield error with Ehnert scoring and Salo drew a bases loaded walk to bring Barthel home and move the game to the thirteenth inning.

It looked like Randolph was going to escape with a win after scoring four times in the top of the fourteenth, but the Eagles weren’t out of miracles.  Andrew Jenkins came through with a run-scoring single, Kaven Blonigen tripled home two runs and Joel Gehrke knocked in Blonigen with a base hit as the Rockets took a comfortable 8-4 lead into the bottom of the fourteenth.  Ehnert started the Eagles on their way back with a lead-off single.  Barthel then walked and Rudolph singled to fill the bases once again.  Jace Randolph cleared the bases with a double and went to third on a throwing error.  He then scored the tying run on a wild pitch, forcing the fifteenth inning and setting the stage for the walk-off win.

Jace Randolph drove in 4 runs and went 2-for-6 at the plate with a single and a double.  He also scored a run and walked twice.  Other offensive leaders for the Eagles were Ehnert (2-6, 2B, 2BB, 3R) and Cade Rudolph (2-8, RBI, R).  Abe Carlson (1.2IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 1K) was the winning pitcher.  Starting pitcher Derin Gaudette (6.2IP, 4H, 1R, 0ER, 3BB, 9K) turned in an exceptional performance but lacked run support.

New York Mills takes a 23-2 record into the championship game against undefeated, top-ranked Hayfield (25-0) at 10:00am Friday at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis.
