Hurricanes Fall to Morris in Third Place Game of Mike Johnson Memorial Tourney

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes lost the third place game on the Mike Johnson Memorial Baseball Tournament on Sunday in Morris, falling to the host Morris Eagles by the score of 6-5.

Morris jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a 2-out solo homer in the first inning by Tanner Picht.

Fergus Falls tied the game with a run in the third inning.  Carter Thielke walked to lead off the inning and Alex Hensch singled him to third base.  Tosten Mann drove him in with a two-out base hit.  The Canes went out in front 4-1 with 3 runs in the fourth.  Alex Hexum led off with a double and Mitch Porter drove him home with a single.  One out later, Eric Salveson belted a home run to right field.   Another run in the top of the fifth made it a 5-1 lead for Fergus Falls.  Mann started the inning with a single, Hexum walked and Austin Stanislawski delivered a run-scoring single.

Morris responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Brett Hansen reached on a bad hop single and Bryce Jergenson reached on an error before Picht launched a 3-run homer.  In the sixth, Brady Jergenson doubled, moved to third on a single by Brandon Jergenson and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kirby Marquardt.  With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Zack Bruns belted a walk-off solo homer.

Hensch (2-5, 2B), Mann (2-2, 2BB, 2SB, RBI) and Stanislawski (2-4, RBI) were the leading hitters for the Canes.

Their next game is Wednesday, June 9 against the Hawley Hawks at 7:30pm at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park in Fergus Falls.
