The Brandon-Evansville softball team recorded a pair of one-run victories on Friday in Graceville as they defeated the Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Wolverines by scores of 5-4 and 4-3.

“These two wins guarantee us at least a share of the Pheasant Conference title, with at least 1 win against Ashby on Tuesday we will have sole ownership of this title for the 7th consecutive season,” said B-E Head Coach Kasi Sieling

In game one, Mikenna Pattrin pitched a complete game, striking out 8, walking 2, allowing 8 hits and 3 earned runs.  Sydney Schaefer (2-4, R, 2 RBI), Bailey Schaefer (1-3, R, RBI), Kylee Dingwall (1-4, RBI) and Korrie Randt (2-3, R) were the hitting leaders for the Chargers.

“The first game was a battle from the beginning,” noted Coach Sieling. “We were able to get runners on and get the timely hits to move them around and take a lead early. We had to work in the first 2 innings with CGB getting runners on early. In the first inning we were able to strand 2 base runners and get out of the inning giving up only 1 run. Korrie Randt added to the scoring in the top of the second inning with single, was moved over by a bunt by Kaytlyn Pattrin and Sydney Schaefer came in to drive them both in with an RBI single. In the bottom of the second inning CGB put the pressure on, but we were able to get out of bases loaded and only 1 out without giving a run, thanks to some strong, heads up defensive plays. This was a back and forth battle and we were able to make the big plays when we needed them and get runners on and be aggressive on the bases to do enough to win. CGB put together a late rally led by a 3 run home run by Laura Botker, but we were able to keep our composure and get the last two outs to close out this game. Mikenna threw extremely well and the defensive did an excellent job behind her.”

Kiley Lund drove in a pair of runs in the second game and Bailey Schaefer was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Mikenna Pattrin also drove in a run with a base hit.

“This was a game of chances and fortunately for us we got just enough chances and took full advantage of them to come away with the win,” added Sieling. “We jumped out to an early lead thanks to a double by Bailey Schaefer, a hard hit ball by Mikenna Pattrin to right field that was dropped and brought in Bailey Schaefer, a walk by Kylee Dingwall and then a 2 RBI single by Kiley Lund. The next 4 innings were pitching duels. We couldn’t quite get anything going offensively and Taylin Kramer kept the Wolverine bats quiet by executing her game plan and letting the defense make the plays behind her. CGB added a run in the 6th, but we were able to work out of it and strand 2 baserunners. We answered in the bottom of the 6th with a single by Bailey who stole second and was brought in on a single by Mikenna. Similar to the 1st game, CGB made us work to the very end and brought in two more runs before Sydney Schaefer caught a fly ball in center field to end the game. This game was a battle back and forth and a fun game to be a part of. All of the pitchers threw well and our girls really fought to come out ahead. I’m really proud of how they played tonight and did the little things to beat a really talented CGB team.”
