Arrows Clinch Pheasant Conference Baseball Championship

The Ashby baseball team clinched the Pheasant Conference championship with a pair of wins over Ortonville on Thursday, beating the Trojans 17-3 and 10-3.

Ashby took the lead late in game one.  The game was tied at three with Ashby batting in the top of the fourth when Jaden Norby singled on the first pitch of his at bat, scoring one run.

Hunter Norby led Ashby Arrows to victory by driving in four runs.  Norby went 2-for-4 at the plate.  Norby drove in runs on a sacrifice fly in the first, a single in the 3-run fourth, and a double in the sixth.  Carter Spangler drove in a run with a double in the first inning.  Carson Spangler, Torin Olson, Evan Paulson and Carter Spangler each contributed an RBI in the Arrows six-run fifth inning.  Ashby had 18 total hits in the contest.

Olson got the win for Ashby, allowing five hits and three runs over four and a third innings, striking out six.  Spangler threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

In game two the Arrows managed through a push by Ortonville in the third inning where Ashby coughed up three runs, but Ashby Arrows still won 10-3 on Thursday.  Strong, Boots, and Tweeter each had RBIs in the big inning.

Ashby opened up scoring in the first inning when Jaden Norby hit a solo homer.

The Arrows pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning.  In the fourth Mattson Hoff doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, Carson Spangler singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Torin Olson singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, and Hunter Norby singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Norby earned the win for Ashby Arrows. The righty allowed zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out nine and walking zero.

Ashby had 12 hits in the game.  Hoff, Brodie Ecker, Olson, and Spangler all managed multiple hits.  Hoff went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Arrows in hits.

“Unbelievably proud of these young men,” said Head Coach Jared Larson. “Can’t wait to see what is in store for the remainder of the year!”

Ashby (15-0) will travel to Roseau for their next game on Friday, May 21.
