M State split their Sunday double header with Riverland in Fergus Falls.  The visiting Blue Devils posted a 13-3 win in the opening game and the Spartans finished the day with a 5-1 triumph in the nightcap.

The Spartans got off to a good start in game one as they scored all three of their runs in the first inning.  Kyle Doup led off with a single and scored on a base hit by Justin Dykhoff.  Dykhoff then scored ahead of Christian Norby on Norby’s two-run homer.  That was all the offense the Spartans could muster in game one.  Riverland broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the third and added four more in the fourth to take control of the game.

In game two, Doup again led off the first with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dane Schwirtz.  RBI singles by Schwirtz and Norby led to two runs in the third and a two-run single by Schwirtz made the score 5-1 after four innings.  Winning pitcher Wyatt Hamann struck out seven, walked two and allowed six hits in the game.

“I thought we weren't really into game one but showed another of heart in game two by coming out and playing with energy right away,” said M State Head Coach Grant Harding.

“Kyle Doup really made a great bade running playing to get the offense on a run. Wyatt Hamann came out and threw a gem.”

M State has three double headers on the schedule this week starting with two games against Northland in Thief River Falls on Wednesday before returning home Thursday to host a double header against Rainy River Community College.  They will travel to play the Northwestern JV team in their final regular season action on Saturday.
