The Fergus Falls girls’ track and field team hosted a dual meet with Central Lakes Conference opponent Willmar on Thursday afternoon. “We have had a busy week with 2 big meets and some well-deserved warm weather,” commented Head Coach Niki Welde of the Otters. “Svea Smestad set her school record in the Shot Put for the second time this season, improving it from 38-3 in the first meet of the year to 39-9. She topped this off with a win in the discus. I really believe she is not done improving that record.”
Emily Nuss stood out again for the Otters, winning the Triple Jump, 300 Hurdles, and running on the winning 4x4 relay team. Her time in the mile was just off her season best. “She continues to show amazing depth in the range of events she competes in,” noted Welde. “Emilie Carlson ran a dramatic season best split in the 4x4 to help her team win the 4x4. She made a bold move at 150meters of the final leg to command the race. What a fun way to end the meet!”
The Otters will compete again next Thursday at Home against Rocori.
