The Fergus Falls girls’ track and field team won their dual meet with Bemidji on Friday, scoring 77 points to the Lumberjacks 60.

“This is one of the coldest meets I can recall coaching,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Niki Welde.  “With that being said I can't say enough about the effort and great attitudes we saw tonight from our team.”

Emily Nuss had an excellent night with a first in the 4x8, Triple jump, and seconds in the 300 Hurdles and Mile.  “She dropped nice chunks of time in both the hurdles and the Mile,” shared Welde.  “She shows her strength competing in 4 taxing events and finding success in all of them.”

Ashlyn Fronning led the Otters in sprints, winning the 100, Long Jump, and leading off the winning 4x100 relay team.   “Ashlyn is leading this team through her hard work and talents,” said Welde.  “Anna Anderson had an excellent night in her 2 relay events, open 100 and Triple Jump.  She is one of our seniors that does not back down from taking on all 4 events she is allowed and standing out in them all.”

Svea Smestad won both the Shot Put and the Discus with a great showing in both.

Ainsley Hansen once again commanded the high jump with a 5-4 jump.  “She remains consistent in her performances there,” noted Coach Welde.  “These heights at her last 2 meets are very exciting considering the conditions and time of the season.”

Anika Eldien had a great showing in the 4x100, High Jump, and Long jump.

Makayla Huus had a one foot improvement in the Pole Vault from her last meet.  “She has so much more to come in this event,” stated Welde.

Alexyss Samuelson had a solid showing placing 2nd in the Shot Put with her throw of 32-0.5.

Emilie Carlson took first in the 400 meter dash.  “She competed with an amazing smile on her face in all 4 of her events tonight,” reported Welde. “Watching her enjoy her competition tonight with that smile made me so thankful to have Track and Field back.”

The Otters compete in 2 meets next week.   In DL on Tuesday, and Thursday at home with Willmar.
