Wheaton/Herman-Norcross hosted a track and field meet on a beautiful Thursday afternoon at the Greg Deal Track and Field Complex in Wheaton. The West Central Area girls’ finished in first place with 200.5 points and the Warriors were second with 103. They were followed by Ashby/Brandon-Evansville (94.5), Hancock (62) and Tri-State (40). On the boys’ side, Ashby/Brandon-Evansville won with 172 points, followed by Hancock (105), Wheaton/Herman-Norcross (102) West Central Area (95) and Tri- State (13).
“It was a great day for a Track and Field meet for the first time in nearly 2 years,” said Ashby/Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Zach Traphagen. “Both our boys and girls teams put together some really solid performances today, but we definitely know there is a ton of room for improvement. Really the biggest takeaway from today is the fact that we finally got back on an actual Track to compete against other teams. For a lot of our kids, it was their first experience ever being at a Track Meet, so this experience is only going to help their confidence moving forward. We're just extremely thankful to be able to compete again. Our boys’ team has some nice depth and that allows us to be able to get multiple place winners in a lot of events. A big congratulations goes to Dierk Goeden who broke the A-B-E school record in the Pole Vault today with a vault of 10'. We have a few girls and boys who weren't able to compete today that we think will help both the boys and girls teams moving forward once they get healthy. All-in-all it was a great day for both teams and the coaches are extremely proud of all our kids' efforts.”
