Spartans Lose Twice to Riverland

The M State baseball team played a pair of games in Austin on Wednesday, April 14, losing 11-4 and 10-3 to the Riverland Blue Devils.

 

In game one, M State managed just five hits, with Austin Oetter connecting for a solo home run.  Kyle Doup drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Isaiah Sykora scored twice.  Sykora, Justin Dykhoff, Wyatt Hamann and Teigen Moritz collected the other singles for the Spartans.

Tyler Nelson (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R) and Jose Lopez (1-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R) led the offensive attack for Riverland.  Winning pitcher Luis Nunez (4IP, 5H, 4R, 1ER, 2BB, 3K) improved his season record to 2-0.  Angelo Alvarado threw three hitless innings of relief.

Three errors led to four unearned runs in game two, as Landry Knight (5IP, 4H, 7R, 3ER, 5BB, 4K) took the loss for M State.  Hitting leaders were Dane Schwirtz (1-4, 2R, RBI, HR, SB), Oetter (1-3, 2B, RBI), Dykhoff (2-4) and Ty Kargar (2-3, 3B).

Austin Lunde (5.2IP, 8H, 3R, 3ER, 1BB, 5K) and Nick Adamy (1.1IP, 1H, 0R) combined on the mound for Riverland with Lunde picking up the win and Adamy earning the save.  Drew Copley (1-3, 2B, 3R, 2 RBI, BB), Andrew Wedwick (1-3, BB, 3 RBI) and Jeremy Vega (2-4) led Riverland at the plate.
