The Breckenridge Cowboys split a double header with Wahpeton on Saturday, winning 3-0 in the first game and losing 12-6 despite outhitting Wahpeton 13-11 in game two.

Cooper Yaggie threw a complete game shutout in game one, striking out 13 batters and allowing only 4 hits.  Breckenridge also had their bats working, picking up 11 hits, topped off by a home run by Cam Nieto.  Nieto, Yaggie, Jayce Werner, Collin Roberts and Connor Twidwell all had multiple hits for the Cowboys.

“After getting a dominant pitching performance from Yaggie in the first game we struggled to throw strikes early in the second game,” noted Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman.

Twidwell started on the mound, threw 3 innings and gave up 4 earned runs.  Roberts gave up 4 earned runs in 1/3 of an inning and Jared Aamold pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs.

“I though Jared did a good job throwing strikes for us,” said Hiedeman.  “Our defense was very suspect in game two.  We let balls drop in the outfield and in foul territory.  Some of that is due to the fact that it’s our first game of the year and we haven’t been outside much.  It’s hard to work on those things in the gym.  We have to do a better job throwing strikes, but again I was impressed with our bats.”

Cam Nieto picked up another four hits with a home run and a double.  Chris Nieto, Twidwell and Aamold all had multiple hits in the second game.

Weather permitting the Cowboys will play Wheaton at home on Tuesday at 5:00pm.
