Brandon-Evansville hosted Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in their first baseball game of the season on Friday and the Thunder defeated the Chargers by the score of 10-3.  Weston Herzog (4IP, 4H, 5K, 3R, 1BB) was the winning pitcher for LPGE.

“It was a long anticipated game after not getting to play last season, so no matter how this game ended up, we were extremely happy to be back out on the diamond,” commented Brandon-Evansville head coach Brian Perleberg. “We have to tip our hats to LPGE as they did a real good job of stringing together their hits and their pitchers only issued three walks in the game.”

The Chargers scored all of their runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Titus Fuller led off with a walk, a Hunter Koep single, followed by an RBI base hit by Dezmond White.

After Riley Perleberg reached on an error to load the bases, Kyle Schaffran knocked in two runs with another single giving The Chargers an early 3-0 lead.

“It was good to see the offense find a spark in the 2nd inning, but after that, we just couldn’t put together any major threats,” noted Coach Perleberg.  “Given the situation of not having played for so long and with so many guys seeing their first starting action at the varsity level, I’m very pleased with many things about today’s ballgame.  Of course we have things to work on, but we also have many positives that we can feel good about and it now gives us a clearer picture of things we need to adjust.”

Dezmond White (4IP, 5H, 4R, 5K 3BB) was the losing pitcher in the game.
