The Fergus Falls baseball team committed six errors as they opened the season with a 10-3 loss to Willmar on Thursday night.

Carter Thielke (3IP, 4H, 4K, 2BB, 3R, 0ER) started on the mound.

“I would’ve loved to have kept him in the game, but we had him on a sixty pitch limit tonight,” said Head Coach Kevin Pearson. “All our pitchers threw well.  It was the defense behind them that struggled.  We have to learn how to make the routine plays and we will be okay.”

Ian Stumbo (2IP, 2H, 2ER, 3K), Owen Krueger and Jonah Sorum also took turns on the mound.

Leading hitters for the Otters were Arik Heacox (3-3), Thielke (2-4) and Stumbo (2-4).  Each of them had one run batted in.

“You could tell is was our first time seeing live pitching,” said Coach Pearson. “It doesn’t matter how many swings you take against the machine, seeing a live arm is so much more challenging.”

The game scheduled for Friday with East Grand Forks has been postponed.
