The last time the Breckenridge Cowboys baseball team laced up the spikes and took the field was 2019 when they finished the season with an 18-7 overall record and a 10-2 mark in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.  With no season due to COVID19 in 2020, the Cowboys saw their entire varsity team from 2019 graduate, with the exception of two players, Cooper Yaggie and Connor Twidwell.

“We are fortunate to have great numbers in our baseball program again this spring,” said Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman, now in his twelfth year leading the Cowboys.  “We have 10 seniors and 10 sophomores and juniors.  Our middle school program has 25 players.  It’s hard to tell what we are going to look like.  We have very few players with any varsity experience.  We have a very athletic group, but we need to develop baseball skills.  We may start slow but I have great expectations to improve as the season progresses.”

Breckenridge is in Section 6AA this season.  Hiedeman will be assisted by Jack Hiedeman (Assistant Varsity Coach), Jeremiah Kramer (JV Coach), Robert Wanek (7th and 8th Grade) and Austin Ramos (7th and 8th Grade).

Breckenridge has five alumni playing college baseball right now.  Westley Johnson is pitching at Valley City, Mitch Porter is pitching at Concordia, Max Johnson, Brayden Wahl and Jeremy Stack are playing for North Dakota State College of Science.  “In addition, we have many players still playing amateur baseball at a high level,” said Coach Hiedeman.  “It’s fun to follow these guys and watch them play.”
