“I thought we really played good baseball today,” said Head Coach Grant Harding of M State. “We ran the bases extremely well and had good approaches at the plate. Will Hoernemann threw really well and was around the zone throughout the game.”
Hoernemann struck out six and walked four, allowing just one earned run. Minnesota West had six hits on the day.
Minnesota West pushed across a run in the top of the first inning, but M State tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Kyle Doup drew a lead-off walk, stole second and scored on a ground out off the bat of Justin Dykhoff.
Back-to-back two-out doubles by Wyatt Hamann and Isaiah Sykora gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead.
