The St. John’s JV team swept a double header with M State on Thursday, winning 9-4 and 7-1.

Wyatt Halvorson started game one and lasted two-and-two-thirds innings for the Spartans, allowing five hits and eight runs while striking out two.  Christian Norby threw three-and-a-third innings out of the bullpen.

Teigen Moritz, Wyatt Hamann, Kyle Doup, Landry Knight and Michael Maanum all had one hit to lead M State.

In the second inning, Hamann doubled with two outs and scored on a single by Moritz.

The Spartans scored twice in the third as Knight led off with a single and Doup followed with a base hit.  Two St. John’s errors led to both runs scoring.  Their final run crossed the plate in the fifth when Knight walked, moved up on a ground out and scored on an error.

The lone run of game two for the Spartans came when Moritz doubled and scored on a two-out single by Tyler Wapola.

“We need to play better defense and have better approaches at the plate,” said Spartan Head Coach Grant Harding. “Teigen Mortiz is showing that he can be a really productive college hitter.”
