The M State lady Spartans got off to a fast start in Worthington on Wednesday night as they jumped to a 21-16 lead after one quarter and held a 35-27 advantage at the half. The tables were turned in the second half as the lady Jays outscored M State 44-27 over the final two quarter to post a 71-62 victory.
Jayna Gronewold poured in 25 points, making 9-of-10 free throws to lead the lady Spartans. She also had 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Sabrina Fronning finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals and Emily Larson contributed 8 points and 6 boards. Kalista Aamot snared 6 rebounds coming off the bench.
M State shot 42% (22-52) from the field and Minnesota West made 43% (21-49) of their field goal attempts. The lady Spartans made 81% (13-16) of their foul shots. The lady Jays were hot from beyond the 3-point line, hitting 9-of-16. They also made 20-of-25 free throws.
Mallory Thorson led Minnesota West with 20 points. Jasmine Voleh scored 10 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Shelby Christensen added 10 points.
M State will host Riverland at one o’clock Saturday and will travel to Austin to face Riverland on Monday night.
