A pair of second period goals by Lauren Maras lifted the Alexandria girls’ hockey team to a 2-1 victory in the Section 8AA championship game at Roseau on Saturday night.  The win followed 2-1 wins over Buffalo/Maple Lake and Brainerd/Little Falls (3 overtimes) in the first two rounds of the playoffs, and puts the Cardinals at 14-4-2 heading into their 1:00pm state quarterfinal matchup with Minnetonka on Saturday, March 27 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Roseau put 38 shots on the Alexandria net, but Jordan O’Kane turned in a stellar performance, recording 37 saves.

Kate Helgeson scored at 14:11 of the first period to stake Roseau to a 1-0 lead.  Assists went to Amy Dahl and Memphis Mertens.

The first goal by Maras came on the power play at 1:42 of the second period and was assisted by Hanley Block and Makenna Aure.  Aure and Peyton Boesl assisted on the second goal by Maras at 12:08 of the period.
