The Rochester Women’s basketball team ran their record to 12-0 with an 83-59 victory over M State on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls. The lady Spartans jumped out to a 10-1 lead with an aggressive pressing defense that forced early turnovers, however, Rochester went on a 22-4 run to take a nine points lead at 23-14 after one quarter. They increased their lead to 47-31 at the half.
Rochester hit 50% (25-50) of their field goal attempts in the game and made 47% (8-17) of their 3’s. They also held a 40-28 advantage on the boards.
For Rochester, sophomore guard Kiley Nihart made 8-of-11 shots from the floor, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc, finishing with a game high 25 points. Kandace Sikkink was 6-of -8 from the field and wound up with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Olivia Christianson was also in double figures with 15 points, while adding 4 assists and a pair of steals. Lexi Hugeback contributed 7 points and 8 rebounds, and Ravyn Miller distributed 5 assists, while scoring 7 points.
Jayna Gronewold led the Spartans with 16 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Sabrina Fronning had 10 points, 5 assists, 4 steals and 3 boards. Morgan Evavold came off the bench to grab a team leading 6 rebounds, 4 of them on the offensive end, while chipping in with 6 points. Abby Tysdal had 7 points and 4 rebounds. The lady Spartans shot 42% (25-59) from the field.
M State (5-4) will travel to Worthington to face Minnesota West on Wednesday night.
