Alexandria Boys Open 6A Playoffs with 7-2 Win Over Morris-Benson

Alexandria improved their season record to 9-9-1 with a 7-2 win over Morris-Benson in the opening round of the Section 6A boys’ hockey playoffs Friday night at the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria.

The Cardinals opened up a 3-0 lead in the first period as the put 13 shots on goal compared to just 5 for Morris-Benson.  Grant Rebrovich scored just 31 seconds into the game with assists from Jacob Partington and Peyton Doty.  Ten seconds later Nick Peterson made it 2-0 with an assist going to Joe Lamski.  Thirty seconds after that, the Cardinals added their third goal as Josiah Gronholz buried the puck from Brycen Berg.

Zach Bruns got Morris-Benson on the board at 8:53 of the second, assisted by Brady DeHaan and Will Breuer.  Alexandria then scored three straight goals, starting with an unassisted tally by Gronholz at 12:33 of the second.  The second period ended with a 4-1 Alexandria lead on the board.

Tyler Kludt scored at 1:22 of the third from Peterson and then Berg scored from Partington and Pieter Mulder at 3:27.  Morris-Benson got their other goal at 4:50 with Kaleb Breuer scoring and Bruns assisting.  At 12:11 Mason Loch finished the scoring for the Cardinals as Lamski earned his second assist of the night.

Christopher Loken came up with 24 stops in the Alexandria net.  The Cardinals put 32 shots on goal.

Alexandria (9-9-1) will play at Fergus Falls (14-3) on Tuesday night at 7:00pm.
