The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team improved their season record to 6-13 with a 67-29 road playoff win over Park Christian School on Monday night in Moorhead.

“This was a fun win for our girls,” exclaimed Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “They played with so much energy. We rebounded and shot the ball really well tonight.

Our offense was really clicking. We were getting great looks, both in the paint and behind the arc. Madi Ballweg had a huge night for us scoring 30 points, including 7 three pointers. Our guards did a nice job attacking the rim and that really opened things up from the outside.”

Mackenzie Foss added 21 points, 8 steals and 3 assists.  Madi Foss led the Comets with 10 rebounds, while adding 5 assists and 4 points.  Ruby Peterson had 9 boards and 5 steals and Regan Wiertzema snared 8 rebounds while scoring 4 points.  Ella Knutson chipped in with 5 points.

“Our defensive pressure got us going in the first half and gave us a lot of momentum going into the locker room at halftime,” noted Coach Clark. “Mackenzie Foss and Ruby Peterson both had a great night defensively. I thought Cassy Twedt did a nice job pressuring Park’s point guards and it allowed our other defenders to get out and apply a lot of pressure. Regan and Ella played great defense on Eden Tofibam. She’s a really nice player and she scored 18, but our girls really made her work for every basket.”

The lady Comets will now travel to Henning on Wednesday night to take on the Section 6A North Sub-Section top seed at 7:00pm.
