Otter Boys Celebrate CLC Championship with 9-2 Win Over Willmar

The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team scored 9 times on Thursday night as they improved their season record to 13-2 with a 9-2 victory over Willmar at the Community Arena in Fergus Falls.  The Otters secured their first ever Central Lakes Conference championship with the win.

Willmar got on the board just 19 seconds into the game when Cullen Gregory scored an unassisted goal.  The Otters pulled even on a goal by Matthew Niblock at 7:55, assisted by Isaac Johnson.  At 12:20, Niblock’s second goal of the game and seventh of the season made it 2-1 Otters with assists going to Isaac Johnson and Colton Partain.

Isaac Johnson notched his first of three goals on the night with a power play goal at 1:25 of the second period, assisted by Niblock and Partain.  Ethan Stark scored for Willmar at 5:03 with assists from Aaron Fischer and Jason Malmgren, cutting the Otters lead to 3-2.  Isaac Young’s fifteenth goal of the season came at 15:57 and was setup by Mike DeBrito, extending the Otter lead to 4-2 at the end of two periods of play.

A DeBrito power play goal at 1:05 of the second period made it a 5-2 lead and Isaac Johnson scored his second of the night at 5:21 from Andrew Johnson and Partain to increase the lead to 6-2.  DeBrito’s second tally of the night came at 6:33 and was assisted by Andrew Johnson and Carter Thielke.  Isaac Johnson completed his hat trick with an unassisted goal at 6:47 and Maveric Kalenberg scored the final goal of the night at 12:30 from Jay Katzenmeyer and Noah Tarczon.

Fergus Falls will close out their regular season schedule with a game against Bemijdi at 2:00pm Saturday.
