Senior post player Paige Pearson netted a career-high 15 points as the Fergus Falls Otter Girls basketball team ran their winning streak to eleven with a 62-54 Senior Night home win over Alexandria.

Pearson had 11 second-half points, including nine in succession after Alexandria had come back to tie the contest at 51-51 late in the half.

The Cardinals had led by as much as nine in the opening half (17-8), before the Otters rallied to take the lead 30-27 at the half sparked by 7 points off the bench from Anna Anderson.  Ellie Colbeck led the Otters at the break, scoring 13.

The Otters came out strong in the second half, and had as much as a nine-point lead on a couple of occasions (36-27, 45-36), before the Cardinals fought back to tie the contest behind the deadly long-range sniping of Mataya Hoelscher who had four of her six treys in the half.

Both teams shot well from behind the arc with the Cardinals making ten and the Otters nine. Fergus Falls made 50% of their shots in the game (25-50), with Alexandria 19-of-49 for 39%.

Colbeck led the Otters in scoring finishing with 20 points. Also in double figures was Pearson with 15, and 10 from Anderson.  Tori Ratz chipped in with 8 points, all in the second half, and Hannah Polejewski added 6 opening half points. Hoelscher had 6 baskets from behind the arc and finished with 18 points for the Cardinals. Lilly Horn added 13.

“Huge win on Senior Night,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Brad Strand.  “The win clinches a share of the CLC championship with Alexandria.  It was a great game to get both teams prepared for a playoff run!”

Fergus Falls (14-3, 10-2, CLC) avenges a 53-50 loss to Alexandria earlier in the season, strengthens their number one Class AA QRF rating, and likely will receive the top seed for section play which begins next week. The Otters close out regular season play Saturday with a 4:30pm home matinee against Bemidji.

Alexandria (14-4, 12-2, CLC) should receive the number one seed in Section 8AAA.  The loss snapped a 7 game Cardinal winning streak.
