Pelican Rapids took a trip to East Grand Forks on Monday night and engaged in a tight boys’ basketball battle with the Greenwave.  The Vikings led 38-33 at the half and the game was tied 69-69 at the end of regulation.  Pelican Rapids went on to post an 82-73 win in overtime.

“We played well for a majority of the first half and were able to build a double digit lead with a few minutes left before halftime,” reported Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “EGF closed the half on a run to cut it to five and continued that into the second half as they built their own ten point lead with five minutes to go in the game. Our guys dug in and made some big plays down the stretch including a three by Jayden Rutherford with two seconds left to send it to overtime, where we were able to pull away for the win behind some solid free throw shooting.”

McHale Korf led Pelican Rapids with 25 points.  Rutherford added 21 and Brayden Ecker scored 11.

Sam Votava and Tanner Campos each scored 18 points to lead EGF and Tyson Mahar added 10.

Pelican Rapids (8-7) is at Perham on Thursday night and at Hawley on Saturday afternoon.
