The final week of the regular season had two more events with the top seed in Section 6A on the line.

The Raiders traveled to Eden Valley on Tuesday for a triangular with the host Eagles and the Wolves of Milaca-Faith Christian.  Bennet Arceneau and David Revering collected opening forfeit against the Eagles.  Deagen Captain added a major decision and Aiden Larson another forfeit.  Reese Thompson and Blake Sumstad earned decisions and the Raiders took the entire first half of the dual when Justin Koehn added a fall for the 34-0 lead.  The Eagles claimed 152 and BHVPP rolled again with pins from Mason Schroeder, Hunter Dean, Tyler Eggert and Gideon Ervasti.  Grant posted a decision, and the Eagles took 285 to round out the victory 61-10.

The second dual of the evening saw Arceneau open with another forfeit.  Revering and Deagen Captain claimed falls.  Larson dominated for a technical fall and Thompson cruised for another decision.  Sumstad added a forfeit for the 32-0 lead.  The Wolves picked up back-to-back wins in the two middle weights.  Then Schroeder and Dean put the dual out of reach with falls.  Ervasti added a fall sandwiched in between decisions from Eggert and Grant.  Milaca’s ranked 285 took the final match, but the Raiders headed home with the 56-12 triumph.

Last Thursday was the rematch of the Section 6A final from 2020.  This time around the top seed for the 2021 season was on the line as both teams had taken care of all section opponents to date.  BHVPP started out strong with a decision from Arceneau.  Revering and Deagen Captain both picked up big pins.  Larson, Sumstad, and Thompson earned hard-fought decisions and the Raiders were out to a 24-0 lead by taking the bottom six weights.  The Knights struck quickly with a technical fall and back-to-back pins to close the gap 24-17.  Dean picked up a huge pin at 170 to slow the momentum.  We traded pins at 182 and 195 with Ervasti’s fall securing the dual.  The Knights pinned at 220 and Hayden Captain pinned at 285 to bring the dual to an end 42-29.  It was a good dual with lots of bonus points on both sides.  The rematch should be highly contested once again this Saturday with higher stakes involved.

The final dual of the season saw some JV kids get into the action on the top level against Ottertail Central.  Justin Olson opened the scoring with a pin.  Cole Motl saw his first varsity action and secured a fall.  Evan Jares added a pin of his own and Holden Truax earned his first varsity victory with a fall for the 24-0 lead.  The Bulldogs battled back for the next three weights cutting into the lead 24-16.  We would exchange pins in the next four weights with Justin Koehn and Dean winning for the Raiders.  Koal Plautz got into the action at 195 and claimed a fall handing the torch to Grant and Hayden Captain to finish the dual with pins of their own for the 54-28 win.  BHVPP has had an incredible regular season and finished with a 24-7 record.

The opening round of the Section 6A tournament will be in Bertha this Thursday.  The Raiders will face the winner of Barnesville and Wadena-Deer Creek in the opening round and should see the winner of Ottertail Central and Pelican Rapids in the nightcap.  The Section 6A Championship will take place this Saturday in Barrett where we will most likely see the host West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville Knights.  The winner of that will turn around and wrestle the Section 5A Champions in the State Quarterfinal immediately after.  The winner of that dual will go into the State Semifinals on March 27th at St. Michael-Albertville High School.  A lot of good wrestling completed with much more to come.  #BHVPP #allforoneoneforall #marchmatness
