The Brandon-Evansville girls’ basketball team overcame a slow start, taking a 26-14 lead and going on to defeat the Ashby Arrows, 51-25 on Saturday afternoon.

Mikenna Pattrin scored 15 points and pulled down 5 rebounds to lead the Chargers.  Olivia Otto had 14 points and 4 rebounds, and Bailey Schaefer contributed 13 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

“We got off to a very slow, methodical start with just some really unnecessary turnovers and poor decision making,” said B-E Head Coach Zach Traphagen.  “We finally turned the corner with about 5 minutes to play in the first half and finished the game playing much better on both ends of the floor. It's always nice to get back into the win column after a couple of tough losses earlier this week, but we need to play with more focus for 36 minutes rather than just 18 minutes. Olivia Otto really stood out today as a bright spot for us offensively. Mikenna and Bailey did some good things for us in the second half as well.”

Ashby was led by Celi Nelson with a double-double (14 points, 15 rebounds) and 4 steals.

“We played well defensively, especially in the first half and did a lot of really good things,” noted Ashby Head Coach Kip Nelson.  “For us, it really comes back to shooting and ball handling.  We are getting better, but this is something we really have to commit to going forward.  The girls played tough and gave a really good effort.  That is what we are looking for right now.”

Brandon-Evansville (6-8) will play at Upsala on Monday.

Ashby (3-11) is at Parkers Prairie for a Little Eight Conference game on Monday.
