Ben Swanson turned aside all 19 shots he faced in the Fergus Falls net on Thursday night and his Otter teammates put 40 shots on the Sauk Rapids-Rice net with six of them finding their mark as the Otters set a school record with their 12th straight win, beating the Storm 6-0. Fergus Falls made the most of 8 power play opportunities, scoring four power play goals.
Carter Thielke got the scoring started with just 58 seconds left in the opening period when he cashed in on a power play opportunity, assisted by Kellen Stenstrom and Michael DeBrito.
Fergus Falls made it a 2-0 game on an Isaac Johnson goal at 4:49 of the second period. Matthew Niblock and Thielke registered assists on the goal. At 8:48, it was Isaac Young scoring on the power play from Ian Richards and DeBrito to make it 3-0, Otters.
Young’s second goal of the night also came as the Otters enjoyed the man advantage at 2:51 of the third period. Assists were awarded to Richards and Cole Zierden. Thielke and Zierden then assisted on the final power play goal of the night, scored at 4:37of the third by DeBrito. Thielke closed out his four point night his second goal, setup by DeBrito and Richards. DeBrito also had a four point night with a goal and 3 assists, and Richards registered a playmaker (3 assists).
Fergus Falls (12-1) will play at Crookston on Saturday afternoon.
