Owls Edge Knights in Closing Seconds

With the West Central Area Knights leading 46-43, Hancock's Matt Thompson hit a 3-pointer with 46 seconds left to tie the game. Thompson got a steal on the next possession and then hit a runner with 4.6 seconds left to win the game for Hancock 48-46.

"This is one of those games that really sting," said Knight Coach Kraig Hunter. "We were in control just about the entire game. Our kids showed a lot of grit tonight and played a good game in a tough environment.  Matt Thompson made some tough, clutch plays in the last minute,  that is why he is regarded as the top player in our section.  It was an outstanding high school basketball game with two teams that both competed very hard."

The Knights shot 14-38 for 37% and the Owls 18-50 for 36%.  The Knights were 3-16 from three and the Owls 4-19.  The Knights got to the line 17 times making 15 for 88% while the Owls were 8-11.  Rebounds were tied at 30-30 and the Knights had 14 turnovers compared to 10 for Hancock.

Matt Thompson led Hancock with 22 points, Cody Berget had 11, Preston Rohloff 10, and Brandon Kellenberger 5.

Ryder Staples led the Knights with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists; Brady Reeve had 10 points and 10 rebounds; Tate Christenson had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists; Grant Beuckens had 8 points; Cole Anderson 3 points and 3 rebounds; Jacob Strunk 2 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals, and Cam Anderson had 2 points.

WCA (8-4) will play at Wheaton on Thursday and host Ortonville on Friday.

Hancock (10-4) will travel to Wheaton for a game on Tuesday night and then play at Renville County West n Thursday.
