Lady Spartans Shoot 29% in Loss to Rochester

The M State lady Spartans shot just 29% (17-59) at Rochester on Saturday afternoon as they were dealt a 57-39 loss by the Yellowjackets.  M State fell behind 16-7 after one quarter, trailed 33-21 at the half and 38-29 at the end of three quarters.  Rochester outscored the lady Spartans 19-10 over the final ten minutes of the game, improving their season record to 9-0.

 

Jayna Gronewold led the lady Spartans with 17 points, 5 assists and 4 steals.  Sabrina Fronning added 9 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.  Morgan Evavold had a team high 8 rebounds and assisted on two baskets.  Lindsey Kurz and Abby Tysdal collected 6 and 5 rebounds, respectively. 

"The girls gave 110% all four quarters against a very talented and undefeated Rochester team," said Head Coach Jodi Holleman of M State.  "The third quarter was a defensive battle.  We need to improve our shooting percentage and do a better job of boxing out.  The lady Spartans played outstanding man-to-man defense today."

Rochester was led by Lexi Hugeback (12 points, 6 rebounds), Olivia Christianson (11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals), Kiley Nihart (9 points, 6 rebound, 4 assists, 2 steals), Ravyn Miles (8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals), Kandace Sikkink (7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals) and Jaide Pressley (8 points, 6 rebounds).  The Yellowjackets shot 35.5% (22-62) on the day.  They won the battle of the boards, 41-31.

M State (2-4) will host Minnesota West on Wednesday night in Fergus Falls.
