Fergus Falls put 43 shots on goal and Sartell had 29 on Thursday night as the Otters came from behind to defeat the Sabres 6-5 in overtime, extending their winning streak to eleven games.  The 11 game winning streak equals the longest streak in Otter boys’ hockey history with the 1977-78 team and the 1984-85 team previously accomplishing that feat.

Fergus Falls started the scoring just fifty-seven seconds into the game when Cole Zierden scored from Matthew Niblock and Andrew Johnson.  Sartell then scored three straight goals to end the first period with a 3-1 lead.  Lucas Smith scored from Lacen VanDenBerg at 10:26, Michael Webster scored on the power play from Connor Hacker at 14:490 and Hayden Walters tallied the third goal of the period with assists from Tory Lund and Webster.

Zierden’s second goal of the night came 1:41 into the second period, assisted by Isaac Johnson.  The Sabres then scored at 6:58 with Lund cashing in from Walters and at 9:17 with Thomas Franke scoring from Walters and Lund.  The Otters cut the lead to 5-4 on goals from Colton Partain at 9:56 and Isaac Young at 15:52.  Michael DeBrito assisted on Partain’s goal and Ian Richards recorded an assist on the goal by Young.

Kellen Stenstrom got the game tying goal at 2:02 of the third period, assisted by Landon Thacker.

For the third time this season and the second time against the Sabres, Isaac Johnson netted the game winner on a wrap-around goal 1:55 into OT.  Niblock assisted on the goal.

“It wasn’t pretty tonight,” said Head Coach Mike Donaghue.  “We struggled handling the puck throughout the night, but Swanny stood tall in the net during the third period on our turnovers.  It was fun to see Isaac Johnson do it again in overtime as he now has 3 game winners in OT.”

Ben Swanson made 24 saves in the Otter net.
