Battle Lake took a 27-25 halftime lead against Brandon-Evansville on Friday night, however, the Chargers made a solid run early in the second half to take their first lead of the night.  The Battlers regained their composure after making several adjustments on both the offensive and defensive end, and went on a 21-1 run late in the second half to run away with a 54-38 Little Eight Conference victory.

“The boys looked good versus a tough Brandon-Evansville squad,” noted Battle Lake Head Coach Tyler Owen. “After going through some adversity this week, the team in blue showed up in a big way. The Battlers were patient offensively in the first half which led to many high percentage shots for multiple players. Because Battle Lake was so patient on offense, the Chargers didn't possess the ball enough to put up a lot of points in the first half. The Chargers must have had a motivating conversation at halftime because they made a run early in the second half to take the lead for the first time in the game.”

Battle Lake did a nice job of distributing the basketball, leading to 13 points for Drew Johnson, 10 for Jack Mekalson, 9 for Owen Buehler, 8 for Nick Carter-Fischer, 7 for Brady VanErp, 6 for Noah Mansker, and 1 for Drew Durbin.

"This is the style of basketball we are going to have to learn to play on a regular basis if we want to be competitive and start winning more games,” added Coach Owen. “One of the emphases tonight was playing TEAM basketball. We've had too much selfish play as of late which has been contributing to some tough losses. It was fun to see the boys buy into what we're trying to do and play basketball the right way--the Battler way. We need to enjoy this win of course, but we also need to build on it and keep growing as a team. I'm excited about where we're heading. We talked about wanting to peak at the right time, and that time is coming."

Battle Lake (3-8) will host Parkers Prairie on Tuesday and West Central Area on Thursday.

Brandon-Evansville (4-7) has lost five straight games.  They will be at home Tuesday against Hancock and Friday against Rothsay.
