The Breckenridge Cowboys paid a visit to Pelican Rapids on Friday night for a Heart O’ Lakes Conference boys’ basketball contest.  The Cowboys held a 36-33 halftime lead and led by two points when McHale Korf was fouled at the end of regulation while attempting a 3-point field goal.  Korf missed his first free throw but nailed the next two to force overtime with the game even at 68-68.  The Cowboys were able to win the extra period and took a 79-74 win.

Breckenridge was led by Cooper Yaggie with 23 points and 5 rebounds.  Jonah Christensen added 18 points and 8 rebounds and Anthony Conzemius had a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds).  Jr. Perez finished with 12 points.

“This was a tight game throughout that we just couldn't get over the hump and take control at any point,” commented Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “We missed a lot of free throws and didn't get stops on defense when we really needed them. Overall, the Cowboys made the winning plays when it mattered the most.”

Jayden Rutherford and Logan Fahje each scored 19 to lead the Vikings.  McHale Korf was also in double digits with 11.

Breckenridge (7-3, 6-1 HOL) will play at East Grand Forks on Tuesday night.

Pelican Rapids (5-5, 3-5 HOL) is at Frazee on Thursday.
