Fergus Falls fell behind 2-0 in Alexandria on Thursday night, but the Otter boys’ hockey team scored six unanswered goals to avenge their only loss of the season by beating the Cardinals 6-2 at the Runestone Arena.  The Otters had 40 shots on goal, compared to 23 for Alexandria.

Josiah Gronholz scored the first two goals to spot the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.  Mason Stennes assisted on the first goal 1:17 into the game and Tyler Kludt setup the second one at 7:33.  Fergus Falls scored at 9:38 when Isaac Johnson buried the goal off a pass from Cole Zierden.  Zierden also assisted on a power play goal by Carter Thielke at 15:47 to tie the game.

“We got off to a slow start in this one but once we got the first one things started to change,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Mike Donaghue.  “The power play goal by Thielke really got us going and we had an outstanding second period.”

Sterling Andrews and Isaac Young scored unassisted goals at 2:38 and 3:43, respectively, and Isaac Johnson’s second of the night was assisted by Zierden and Ian Richards at 13:18.  Young’s second unassisted goal at 16:55 completed the scoring.

"We worked extremely hard out there tonight," said Coach Donaghue.  "No matter which line or pair of defensemen were on the ice everyone was going hard and moving.  When we work together this is the kind of outcome we can produce."

Ben Swanson came up with 21 saves in the Fergus Falls net, while Alexandria goalies Teagen Pfeffer and Christopher Loken combined to stop 34 shots.

Fergus Falls (9-1) will play at Brainerd on Tuesday.

The loss was the fourth in a row for Alexandria (4-5-1).  The Cardinals will play St. Cloud Cathedral on Saturday afternoon at the MAC in St. Cloud.
