Battle Lake hosted Ashby in a Little Eight Conference girls’ basketball contest on Thursday night with the Battlers taking a 61-42 win over the Arrows.

Grace VanErp scored 26 points to lead the lady Battlers and Ady Tysdal was also in double digits with 19.  Erika Heibel added 9 points.

“Our girls played a really nice all-around game tonight on our home floor,” commented Head Coach Dave Marso of Battle Lake.  “We were able to get out to an early lead and keep that lead throughout the game.  By the half we were ahead, 33-22.  Early in the second half we were able to maintain the double digit lead, but not really put any more separation between us and the Arrows.  At the midway point of the half, we had a small run that extended the lead and we finished with a 61-42 victory.  I was really pleased with our defensive effort tonight.”

Ashby was led by Celi Nelson with 15 points and Catherine Koefod with 11.

“We could not keep up with VanErp tonight,” said Ashby Head Coach Kip Nelson.  “She played really well on both ends for the court.  We hung in there, played hard, but we did not have an answer for her.  I am still proud of the way our girls are fighting, there is no give up, which is really nice to see.”
