The M State lady Spartans jumped out to a 25-2 lead over Sisseton-Wahpeton on Wednesday night and went on to defeat the lady Mustangs by the score of 67-41. M State led 17-2 after one quarter, 34-11 at the half, and 61-22 after three quarters. Sisseton-Wahpeton outscored the lady Spartans 19-6 over the final ten minutes of the game.
Sabrina Fronning (25 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals), Jayna Gronewold (20 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals) and Emily Larson (7 points, 17 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks) produced huge statistical nights in the win. Morgan Evavold pulled down 11 rebounds as the Spartans won the battle of the boards decisively, 56-30, including 17 offensive rebounds.
M state shot 40% (30-75) on the night. The lady Spartans were without leading scorer and rebounder Alison Kranz.
Sisseton-Wahpeton only made 24.6% (14-57) of their field goal attempts, but had four players hit treys as they were 8-26 (30.8%) from beyond the arc. Hailey Shepard registered a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 3 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocked shots. Shainna Cook and Rubie Oftedal had 8 points each, Jordyn LeBlanc had 7 and Katelyn Beaudreau added 6.
M State (2-4) will travel to Rochester for their next game on Saturday, February 27.
