The Raiders hosted Pelican Rapids and Staples-Motley last Tuesday in Verndale.  It was the first competition of the season against Section 6A opponents and BHVPP continued to flex its muscles against sectional teams.

The opening match saw the Raiders get out to a 30-0 lead in the first five matches as Bennet Arceneau, David Revering, Deagen Captain, and Reese Thompson picked up falls in addition to a forfeit for Aiden Larson.  The Vikings took the last two matches of the front half of the dual to bring it to 30-10.  The second half of the dual played out very similar as Jason Koehn, Mason Schroeder and Hayden Captain earned falls to go with forfeits for Hunter Dean and James Grant.  The Vikings also earned their two matches for a final of 60-20.

The third round of the triangular matched us up against neighboring foes from Staples-Motley.  Arceneau and Revering sparked the scoring with pins for the 12-3 lead after a hard-fought defeat at 120.  Larson added a dominating major decision and Thompson secured another pinfall to make it 22-3.  The Cardinals picked up three straight decisions to come as close as 22-12 before the top end brought home the victory as Schroeder, Dean, Tyler Eggert, Koal Plautz, and Grant glued their opponents and Hayden Captain accepted a forfeit to end the dual 58-12.

As the week progressed, the temperatures plummeted just as the Raiders opponents did.  On Thursday, it was a triangular in Royalton against Frazee and the hosts where BHVPP continued its hot streak.  Arceneau opened the dual with a technical fall. Revering added a forfeit.  Deagen Captain picked up the fall and Larson and Thompson both took home decisions to round out the first five weights and make the score 23-0.  The Hornets stung quickly with three straight pins to come within 23-18 before the top end once again signed, sealed, and delivered the victory.  Schroeder…pin, Brock Peterson…pin, Dean…major decision, Gideon Ervasti…pin, Grant…pin, Hayden Captain…pin.  BHVPP wins…54-18.

The nightcap saw another top ten battle as we squared off against our eleventh ranked opponent of the season in the #10 Royals.  Arceneau started it off with a decision.  Revering added a fall and Deagen Captain settled for the major decision.  Larson added a fall and it was 19-0 out of the gate.  The Royals stole 132, added three straight pins, and added a decision to take the lead 24-19.  Dean picked up the fall to regain the lead the Raiders never looked back as Eggert added a decision.  Ervasti took the forfeit.  Grant claimed a major decision and Hayden Captain pinned the #4 heavyweight in a back-and-forth bout to secure the victory 44-24.

Next week has four more section teams on the docket as the Raiders hope to continue to make improvements on their 13-5 record.  Barnesville and Wadena-Deer Creek come into Bertha on Tuesday and New York Mills and Breckenridge travel to Parkers on Thursday to cap off week 6.
