The Alexandria girls’ hockey team posted a 3-1 win over Grand Rapids/Greenway on Saturday afternoon with all goals being scored in the third period. The Cardinals finished with 27 shots on goal compared to 20 shots for Grand Rapids/Greenway.
Peyton Boesl scored at 1:17 of the third period with assists from Ali Castle and Anna Doherty, giving Alexandria a 1-0 lead. They increased their lead to 2-0 on a Marki Oberg goal at 3:36, assisted by Makenna Aure. Grand Rapids/Greenway cut the lead in half at 4:54 when Claire Vekich scored from Allie LeClaire and Makenzie Cole, however, the Cardinals registered an empty net goal with 26 seconds left from Aure, giving them the 3-1 victory.
Alexandria goalie Jordan O’Kane stopped 19 of the 20 shots she faced to earn the win in the nets.
Alexandria (4-4-1) started a five game stretch of road games with the win on Saturday. They will play at Moorhead on Tuesday night and go to Buffalo Saturday to face Buffalo/Maple Lake.
